We are looking for a Doctoral student to become part of our team at the Division of Energy Technology at the Department of Environmental and Energy Sciences. Join our team and contribute to identifying and evaluating different pathways toward sustainable energy systems.
At the Division of Energy Technology, we develop and analyse sustainable energy systems and conversion technologies for industry and society. Through strong national and international collaboration, we unite experimental and systems research to create efficient, low-emission solutions driving the transition towards carbon-neutral energy and industry. The energy systems group at Energy Technology has a long experience in the field of energy systems analysis and development of modeling methodologies. A focus of the research is to understand the challenges and opportunities with integrating renewable energy sources and electrification of new sectors at different geographical levels. The research group participates in several large research projects such as Mistra Electrification and North European Power Perspectives. The group has close collaboration and interaction with many industries, cities, municipalities, regions, etc.
The overall aim of the PhD-project is to investigate energy transitions which are not only cost-efficient but also feasible from a technical and socio-technical perspective. You will work in an interdisciplinary team including electric power engineers and social scientists and develop methods to include aspects such as reliability, acceptance and fairness into a modeling framework, applied to the Nordic energy system. The work takes its starting point in a mathematical representation of technologies and costs in the energy system, therefore requiring an engineering background. However, for this project you must also be open to learn to include social science perspectives on the energy transition by means of cooperation with other research groups.
The following requirements are mandatory:
Energy Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental science, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent.
The following experience will strengthen your application:
Chalmers is dedicated to improving gender balance and actively works with equality projects, such as the GENIE Initiative for gender equality and excellence. We celebrate diversity and consider equality and inclusion as fundamental aspects of all our activities.
