Safe and efficient ice navigation supported by satellite data
Join us at the Division of Geoscience and Remote Sensing and help advance knowledge about sea ice dynamics and develop the capability for navigation support with synthetic aperture radar.
The Department of Space, Earth and Environment brings together expertise in space, geoscience, energy and sustainability. Through curiosity-driven research, education and collaboration, we explore the Universe, the Earth and the complex systems linking environment, energy and society – enabling knowledge-based solutions for a sustainable future.
At the Division of Geoscience and Remote Sensing, we develop advanced methods and instruments to observe and understand the Earth system. Combining satellite, airborne and ground-based measurements with modelling and machine learning, we collaborate globally to monitor environmental change and support a sustainable future.
The postdoc will work at Chalmers University of Technology in a project funded by the Swedish National Space Agency and managed by the Swedish Polar Research Sectretariate. The project will develop and test new methods to convert satellite data into detailed, operational information about ice conditions. The goal is to improve navigation, reduce fuel consumption and enable safer research operations in the Arctic, where rapid changes in the ice create increasing challenges for both science and shipping. General information about the project can be found here.
