Doctoral student in geometric methods for communications and signal processing
Do you love math, and want to use your mathematical skills for something useful? Do you enjoy geometric puzzles? Then this position is for you!
At the Department of Electrical Engineering research and education are performed in the areas of Communications, Antennas and Optical Networks, Systems and Control, Signal processing and Biomedical engineering, and Electric Power Engineering. We work with sustainable and smart solutions to societal challenges, such as energy efficiency and electrification in areas ranging from transport and production systems to communication solutions and biomedical engineering.
The Division of Communications, Antennas, and Optical Networks (CAOS) researches advanced wireless and optical technologies. We focus on antenna systems, communication and sensing for future 6G, and secure optical networks. Our work supports a more sustainable and efficient communication infrastructure. The division is strongly involved in education and thesis supervision. CAOS researchers also participate in several major research centres at Chalmers. Mathematical methods are essential in most of our projects.
In this project, we will revisit the classical sphere-packing problem and apply it to improve modern systems for digital communication and signal processing. You will work together with your supervisor and colleagues to design new sphere packings, for example lattices, develop theory and algorithms for their practical use, and study complexity and performance trade-offs in relevant applications. The project is led by Professor Erik Agrell (IEEE Fellow), whose contributions to this research field are internationally recognized, and funding is provided by a prestigious grant from the Swedish Research Council.
The following requirements are mandatory:
